Consumer researchers have uncovered a blind spot when it comes to proper food labeling for children. Nutrition guidelines printed on food packages are based on adults and not kids.

This can be problematic when it comes to snacks that children enjoy such as cookies. Infants and toddlers have a much lower recommended intake of nutrients like sodium and sugar. If youngsters follow serving guidelines, it may result in excessive intake.

However, recent changes to food safety laws have resulted in the labeling of recommended ages for certain food products along with more stringent sterilization standards.
