Given the near universality of concern regarding the effects of dust pollution on people's health, the prevalence of in-car air cleaners is perhaps no surprise. However, a new report claims that about half of the aftermarket air purifiers for vehicles are ineffective at removing fine dust and other contaminants from the air in cars. In fact, some of the devices may actually exacerbate the problem by generating their own noxious particles. Four of nine air cleaners tested in the report generated worrying levels of ozone.
