The South Korean government has unveiled a plan to open three border areas in and around the demilitarized zone for guided hiking trails. The plan capitalizes on an inter-orean agreement to turn the DMZ, a relic of the Cold War, into a genuine peace zone.
The unification ministry’s Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Council, composed of government and civilian experts, approved 4.4 billion won to be set aside for the project. The first trail in Goseong is expected to open from late April on a trial basis, while two others will follow later.
