The United States moved another step closer to sending people into space again. The privately-built SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule successfully launched from the U.S. state of Florida aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.

It will visit the International Space Station for five days to test the systems and operations required to allow humans on board. Though the latest launch was unmanned, the first manned mission has been pencilled in for July.

However, there was a sensor-clad dummy on board this time. It was named Ripley in homage to Sigourney Weaver’s character in the Alien movies. NASA retired its space shuttle fleet in 2011 and has paid Russia about $81 million per seat to send American astronauts to the space station.
