The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency arrested a crime ring that stole approximately 500 million won worth of oil by illegally tapping an oil pipeline. 서울 경찰청은 불법으로 송유관을 뚫고 약 5억원 상당의 기름을 훔친 범죄 조직을 체포했다.
The group's ringleader was an oil pipeline technician and other members of the syndicate included a gas station operator.
From last April to August, the team installed a high-pressure hose in an oil pipeline and siphoned about 460,000 liters of gasoline and diesel.
They then sold the fuel at a discounted price at a gas station they leased nearby in Cheonan.
Last August, authorities discovered the oil leak and started an investigation. The ringleader was arrested this March for attempting the same scam on a pipeline near Yeosu.
Police say this is a dangerous crime that can result in large explosions and fires.
