An eight-meter sperm whale was found dead off the Italian island of Sardinia with 22 kilograms of plastic in its belly. The discovery prompted the World Wildlife Foundation to sound the alarm over the dangers of plastic waste in the Mediterranean Sea. Items in the deceased whale's body included a corrugated tube, plastic plates, shopping bags, tangled fishing lines and a washing detergent package with its bar code still legible. Sadly, the whale was also carrying a fetus that had died and was in an advanced state of decomposition.
