The city of Seoul announced that it will donate about 40 million won to fuel the dreams of children and youth.
The money will come from all of the coins tossed into the Cheonggyecheon Stream in 2018. Foreign tourists and locals have enjoyed tossing coins into a circular target to wish for good fortune. The Seoul Scholarship Foundation will receive about 30 million won to give scholarships to low-income students at specialized high schools.
Meanwhile, the UNICEF Korea Committee will get approximately 10 million won for its programs. Since 2005, about 377 million won worth of coins have been collected and disbursed on behalf of Seoul citizens.
