Korea ranked second globally last month in terms of smartphone data subscription costs.
According to a Finish study, the average cost for 1 GB of mobile data in Korea in April came to USD $16.60.
The study was conducted on the pricing of data services using long-term evolution (LTE) networks in 41 countries.
Canada followed Korea with a rate of USD $11.55 with the United States standing at fifth place with a charge of USD $8.35 per GB of mobile data.
Carriers in Korea claim that the results do not account for their top-notch networks, while local activists claim that Korea's telecom costs are still overpriced and that carriers should provide more discounts.
