After the number of tourists from China dropped precipitously after a diplomatic row in 2017 over South Korea's deployment of the THAAD missile defense system, visitors from China have rebounded.
In March, Chinese tourists to South Korea topped the 400,000 threshold for the first time since February 2017.
The Justice Ministry said the number of Chinese people visiting South Korea gained 16.5 percent from a month earlier to 427,628 in March.
Compared with the corresponding number a year earlier, it showed 13-percent growth.
2017년 사드(THAAD·고고 도미 사일 방어 체계)배치를 놓고 외교적 마찰이 빚어지자 중국인 관광객이 급감한 것이다. 3월 중국인 관광객이 40만명을 돌파한 것은 2017년 2월 이후 처음이다. 법무부는 한국을 방문하는 중국인들의 수가 3월에 42만 7,628명으로 한달 전보다 16.5퍼센트가 증가했다고 말했다. 1년 전의 해당 수치와 비교하여 13퍼센트의 성장을 보였다.
